YEAR 2008

Haigh Lane Nurseries is a small, family-run nursery that specialises in producing a wide range of garden plants for local gardens.

Varieties not listed: We are constantly enlarging the range we grow. Where varieties are produced in very small numbers, or where we are not sure that varieties will be ready for sale this year, they will appear on sale at the nursery as and when they are ready.

Because we are a production nursery with plants at all stages of development, from seedlings or cuttings to finished plants, we cannot allow customers to roam freely as they do on a retail garden centre where every plant you see is ready for sale.

HOW SALES OPERATE.

A selection of plants ready for sale is put out onto display plant-stalls. This means that you can easily see what sorts of plants are ready. If you can't see what you want - ask, we may have it.

When you are ready to purchase you get the personal attention of a grower who has been actively involved in the production of the plants you buy.

We can help you to make your selection, bring out varieties you want that are not on display, and give any advice necessary for the particular plants you are buying.

It doesn't matter if you have come straight off the garden or are dressed for a day out. There are no dirty pots to handle, no heavy baskets to carry, no carts to push - you don't even need to carry the plants to your car. We pack them for you and will happily load them into your vehicle if you wish.

PLANT NAMING:

This web catalogue is not intended as a horticultural encyclopedia and, like Plant News and nursery sales labels, does not necessarily follow the scientific upper/lower case convention for plant names. We have decided, for reasons of emphasis, to follow the traditional formatting for sales catalogues.

GENERAL PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS (HARDY PLANTS):

Container growing was introduced to allow the sale of plants out of what was then the planting season. This minimises root disturbance when planting and the root-ball should not, therefore, be teased-out except in special circumstances, if directed. Some varieties can be harmed by root disturbance.

All our plants have been container grown and can generally be planted whenever the ground is not frozen.

After planting in a prepared bed or container the soil or compost should be firmed down around the plant to make good contact with the root-ball.

Water in well and then water and feed periodically as required.

If the ground freezes after planting make sure that plants have not been lifted by the frost (after the ground has thawed out, gently press around the plant to make sure that it is still firm).

ALL OUR PLANTS ARE SOLD FOR PLANTING IN LOCAL GARDENS:

They are not sold for resale on other nurseries or garden centres.

They are not sold for use as mother stock for commercial propagation purposes or for any other form of commercial plant material multiplication, dissemination or distribution.

OTHER INFORMATION AND TERMS:

Every care is taken to ensure that varieties that are covered by Plant Breeders Rights Legislation are clearly marked as such by a label attached to each pot. Such varieties are either protected or protection has been applied for under the UK Plant Variety and Seeds Act 1964 and/or EU PBR, propagation without licence is illegal.

Any advice given on this site should be used as a starting point only. There are many excellent Gardening Encyclopedias on the market for looking up detailed, specific advice (remember that many gardening books are written by people who gained their experience gardening in the warmer-winter-soils of the South).

The laws of nature govern the normal variability of plants grown from seed and predominant colours in mixtures can vary from batch to batch or season to season.

The heights given are average, eventual heights for this area and are only advisory. Position, prevailing conditions (the amount of shelter or shade etc.) and treatment (feeding etc.) may all affect the actual height reached.

Cash sales only, no deliveries or dispatch, and no trade enquiries.

All the prices on this site are subject to alteration without notice.

Prices on this site are dated January 1st 2008.

The present prices cancel all previous prices.

All items are subject to availability.

Inclusion in our lists does not mean that an item is, or will be, ready for sale. We do not buy in plants for resale. If we have sold out of a specific variety we will have no more to sell until the next batch of that variety is ready.

We are not responsible for anything occurring beyond our control.

If any entry on this Web site becomes corrupted by any means the  printed prices and notices at the nursery will stand.

Health and Safety Notice:

Unless otherwise stated, we recommend that all parts of all ornamental plants be regarded as poisonous and/or capable of causing allergic reactions. Remember that relatively few plants have been comprehensively tested for toxicity. Food crops should be prepared and eaten in the traditional manner.
